Identity Theft

Identity Theft is when the personal identifying information or a personal identification document of a person is fraudulently used to obtain credit, money, goods, services, or other property.   Victims of Identity Theft often are unaware they have become a victim and do not know how or when their identity or personal information was compromised.  The damage suffered by a victim of Identity Theft can often take months and sometimes even years to recover.  The Shorewood Police Department provides a wide range of services to address this ever growing criminal trend; from public education, to the provision of police reports to allow victims to work with their financial institutions, to the full investigation and prosecution of offenders whenever possible.
