Individual Volunteer Opportunities

The Shorewood Parks and Recreation Department relies on volunteers to provide many of its services. Almost every month (and 12 weeks during the Summer!),  there is a free, family friendly and fun event every week.  We can’t do it without a dedicated group of volunteers who have a great time doing great things for our community. Additionally, our parks remain beautiful because of residents just like you who commit to helping our Spring and Fall "GREEN UP / CLEAN UP" efforts.  Finally, our parks grow and flourish with the ideas and planning of new features and programs. As a Friend of the Parks, you might become a part of a survey or focus group helping to focus growth for the next generation. If you would like to volunteer for an hour, an event or a season, we would love to have you join The Friends Of The Parks.   Call 815-741-7710 to find out how you can help.

Group and Family Volunteer Opportunities

Does your non-profit group, school organization, church youth group, garden club or family want to become a special part of our community? Adopt A Park !

By becoming a partner with the Village Parks and Recreation Department in maintaining a local park, you provide a valuable service, gain skills in horticulture and property maintenance, build community spirit and have fun !  We have parks as small as 1 acre to as large as 50 acres and large and small maintenance projects to go with each park. Adopting a park does not mean you are responsible for regular maintenance such as cutting the grass. Rather, it is a seasonal commitment to help weed flower beds, spread mulch, pick up debri or paint benches.  A perfect opportunity to teach community service to youth participants, to put your green thumb to good use or to give back to your community, Adopting a Park is a rewarding and fun way to stay connected to your community. Call 815-741-7710 or send an email to KFitzpatrick@vil.shorewood.il.us or LGundersen@vil.shorewood.il.us for more information.
