Q & A with Lino Carrillo, owner of Express Signs & Lighting Maintenance

Where are you located?
212 Amendodge Drive
Shorewood, IL 60404

What products or services do you offer?
We are a full-service sign and lighting maintenance company. Designing, fabricating, installing, and maintaining illuminated and other signs!

What is unique about Express Signs & Lighting Maintenance?
We pay attention to customer needs and pride ourselves on every detail. We have 100 years of combined experience, and this gives us an edge. What we make lasts a long time. Also, every sign is customized; you want it to say what you want it to say, which is a unique aspect of our work.

What brought you to Shorewood?
I bought the sign company in 2019 and have enjoyed operating out of Shorewood, where the people are generous, friendly, and kind.

How large is your team?
6 in-shop employees and 4 installers.

What’s an interesting fact about your business that most people don’t know?
Signs are more complex than people think and there is an incredible variety. Flexible LED is an example of new materials being used in signage.

How important is signage for a business?
I think it is really important. Number one, it helps people find your business, and secondly, you can use signage to send a message either passively through a company’s branding and what they want to be known for or directly through message boards.

What tips would you give new businesses as they begin looking for signage?
Start early because it is often the last thing people look at when opening their business, and don’t be afraid to ask for what you want because we can probably make it. Also, budget accordingly because the cost of different signs varies.

What are the most commonly used materials for signage?
Aluminum, acrylic, and polycarbonate.
